Tatyana - I tried toilet roll tubes for the first time last year and they work really well as they just rot down into the soil so no need to disturb the roots.

Jo - I haven't got enough windowsill space so mine go straight into the greenhouse

Bonnie - I don't think I have ever tried salsify!

Damo - Yes I just used seed compost for the top layer.

Yay! Good work there. Spring is coming, it's true, and here in the NW it pays to be ready, like you are, since the growing season is intense but short. Great tip about the leeks, we will be growing them for the 1st time and don't want to be jerking them up thinking they are grass! Also we are trying Salsify and I hear that it looks just like grass, too. We just got the peas sown, so garden fever is really coming fast. Cheers!! Bonnie

I've seen all types of containers for seeds, but this is the first time I see toilet roll tubes. What a great idea! They are always available, aren't they? That egg looks very impressive! Happy spring to you!
