I have been thinking about about
what I will be doing in the garden this autumn. Once the growing season has drawn to a close, autumn is a season of clearing and preparing for the following season. So for me, apart from harvesting late crops (leeks in my case), the first task will be to clear out the the plants which will go onto the compost. Unforunately much of the plot has taken over by weeds, so I am keen to get these out, particularly the large perennial ones - I seem to be cursed with docks and nettles. I also have a small plot next to my main plot, which is currently overrun with weeds so I am hoping to clear this out as well. Once I have cleared the space I will cover with out home made compost as a mulch - this should rot down into the soil nicely over the winter.
Previously I have always planted my garlic in spring, but this year they were a complete disaster. So for next season I think I will plant much earlier - traditionally they are planted on the shortest day, but I think I will plant a little earlier.
My other task will be pruning back the fruit bushes and tidying the fruit trees. It is best to do this in the autumn when they have all but stopped growing, but it is not yet too cold.
If I have time, we have another area that has been taken over by weeds that I want to clear to form a herb garden.
Well this is what I will be doing in my
garden in November. What about you?

i'm building a couple raised garden beds and will be ordering or buying some garlic and other bulbs soon
I have finished my winter dig and fertilized my allotment so I am concentrating on getting fruit bushes at the minute in the hopes they will bare fruits next summer...I also need to tackle the weeds in the path between the plots as they keep spreading to my plot. Just when you think you are done you turn around and notice something else!!!
We have cleared ours away and have planted garlic to overwinter. Keeping my jalapeno peppers, basil, aloe vera, and geraniums indoors until spring.
Oh, and I still have beets to harvest when they are ready. I love raw beets!
